Here's a sketch, and you're probably no going to believe this, but I'm not an artist that draws or paints!!! Anyway, here's a layout of what I was trying to describe verbally, now here it is visually, any better?

Thanks Rich, need to get some shop lights sorted. Good articles - great photos. A service to photo duffers like myself. You deserve a real VW Bug.

Poe Ed,glad to. It's all realtive to the size of the art work and the lens used on the camera,of course, but let's assume the artwork is roughly 20" x 24" and I'm using a zoom lens, set around 80mm. 1. 6 to 8 feet. 2. Same, 6 to 8 feet. 3. This is a trick question, huh? 8 to 10 feet? 4. I use the compact flourescent bulbs, which are 23 watts and are the "Soft Spots" which I think relates to 120wt if a regular bulb is used. If the image is much larger, I would use 2 bulbs on each side, to make sure the artwork is evenly covered. Hope this answered your questions. If you are going to set this up to copy your artwork, here's another tip. Go buy or find a large gray poster board or even a large piece of cardboard and then copy that, but under-expose the capture. This will show you light and dark areas on the poster board that you can then play with the lights until they are evenly balanced on the poster board and then you are ready for the artwork. Let me know if you have any additional questions, Rich

Thank you very much for sharing. I have found it is very helpful for an amateur link me to photo my works. think that it would be better, if could share with us roughly those measurements:1/ the distance from the camera to the artwork 2/ the distance between two light-pot stands 3/ the distant from the camera to the light-pot stand. And the capacity of each spot light. Am I asking too much? Have a good time.
