Thank you for the explanation, Rich. I had often wondered whether grain was originally developed for esthetics. Your saddles have a rich color and the light has a golden glow. Very beautiful.

Yes, film grain was another aspect of the actual film type. An example most people will remember, those that used film cameras, was Tri-X, from Kodak, that was a 400 ASA film and could be developed to either enhance or increase the grain of the film for certain images. Today, there are many apps and filters on programs like Photoshop, that will add a "grainy" look to the digital image. I think the image above was a color slide film from Agfa that was 400 ASA and had a nice "soft" grain to it,which worked for many "artsy" images,but wouldn't be used for everyday commercial photography.
